A butterfly effect is an idea that is more commonly used in the Chaos theory. The classic example is that a butterfly flutters its wings in Brazil which can cause a tornado to happen in Texas. Now , obviously , butterfly wings can't directly cause a tornado, but the example suggests that all actions in the past have consequences in the future.
